Barbara and Julia discuss summer pruning of fruit and ornamental trees with special guest Master Gardener Doug van Allen. The show airs every Thursday from 6-6:30 pm.

(Airdate: June 4, 2026) June In the Garden talks about critters that we share our community with and how we can co-exist peacefully. Dianna and Mary Beth talk about critters causing havoc in your vegetable garden. Julia and Barbara offer strategies to reduce deer and rabbit damage in any garden. The show airs every Thursday from 6-6:30 pm. 

(Airdate: May 7, 2026) May In the Garden is all about soil. Julia talks about soil microbes and a home activity that you can do to test soil microbes called “Soil your Shorts.” Mary Beth goes into the Wonderful World of Worms. Dianna extols the virtues of mulch mulch mulch. Barbara demystifies the process of soil testing.

(Airdate: April 2, 2026) In our April episode, Dianna and Mary Beth explore the adventure of growing perennial vegetables, berries, and herbs. They cover how these crops can help suppress weeds, form ground covers, attract pollinators, and provide beauty in the garden — as well as produce long-term nutritious harvests. April is also Native Plant Appreciation Month. Julia and Barbara raise awareness about the connection between native plants and native pollinators in the home garden, and discuss ways to offer nectar and pollen to beneficial wildlife. The show airs Thursday from 6-6:30 pm.

(Airdate: March 5, 2026) In our March episode, Dianna and Mary Beth talk about starting seeds indoors using “season extenders” to get vegetables growing for an earlier harvest. Barbara and Julia talk about the 4 D’s of pruning flowering shrubs, and cover the possible benefits and risks of using horticultural and neem oils. The show airs Thursday from 6-6:30 pm.

(Airdate: February 5, 2026) In our February episode, Dianna and Mary Beth talk about starting seeds indoors using heat mats and grow lights. Barbara is joined by special guest Master Gardener Doug van Allen, co-manager of the PTHS Culinary Garden and volunteer pruner at the Blue Heron School Orchard. Julia and Barbara advise on the benefits of winter weeding before weeds have a chance to flower. January is also a time for new seed starting, and Julia shares a method to start seeds without equipment like heat mats or a greenhouse. The show airs Thursday from 6-6:30 pm.
