Booklovers’ Cafe – Scott Wilson, Working Port

This is a book for everyone as it is filled with so many great stories and characters. Some of these men and women are people still here making Port Townsend the unique and fabulous town we love!

(Airdate: November 5, 2024) After a trip to the Tibetan center of Labrang, we’re back in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province. Lanzhou has never been renowned for its beauty, and it’s sliding fast toward the ugly end of the scale. Still, there are a few places worth visiting while we await the next bus out of town—Five Spring Mountain Park, and across the Yellow River, the White Pagoda, both full of history and legend.

Questions: When and why did Jefferson County, especially Port Townsend, come to so strongly support Democratic Party candidates. What might the retirement of Derek Kilmer mean to Jefferson County?  What effect might come from the change in our district’s delegation to the State Legislature?  

County Public Health Report ~ 11/04/24

This Month on the BOCC Health Report, Dr. Allison Berry says all respiratory viruses are low in Jefferson County. Flu season is starting on the east coast, so we can expect it here in about a month – around the holidays,” says Dr. Berry. Willie Bence says we can expect more seasonal wind events, and that the precipitation will be higher than average during the winter, with lower than average temperatures, so prepare for power outages now.

County Connections

(Airdate: November 1, 2024) Co-hosts County Commissioner Heidi Eisenhour and Jim Burke welcome Eron Berg, Port Director of the Port of Port Townsend and Scott Freeman of the Jefferson Timber Collective. They discuss the new Airport Industrial Park that the Port is developing between the Airport and Four Corners which will be an incubator for new and growing companies. Some are working with the Jefferson Timber Collective which is working with local foresters, sawyers and makers, to provide materials and local timber to GROW local businesses.
