Jennifer Pharr Davis

(First airdate: November 20, 2019) Jennifer Pharr Davis is an American long-distance hiker, an author, a speaker, a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, and an ambassador for the American Hiking Society. She has hiked more than fourteen thousand miles on six different continents. In 2011, Pharr Davis set the unofficial record for the fastest thru hike of the Appalachian Trail with a time of 46 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes, an average of 47 miles a day. Cris talks with her about her book The Pursuit of Endurance: Harnessing the Record-Breaking Power of Strength and Resilence. We all need some of that!

Daniel came to Port Townsend in the 1970s and somehow never left. Over the years he transitioned from being a card shark to a restaurateur and chef. Today he talks turkey – outlining the way to make your Thanksgiving a succulent feast. Put that bird in brine in a five gallon bucket and stuff butter between the skin and meat. Oh, don’t forget about spatchcocking the bird (splitting it open). Then there’s guidelines for three kinds of stuffing and the perfect gravy. Daniel even spills on how to create fluffy crust for your pies.

Earlier this month John Mauro, who last worked in New Zealand, took over the job of Port Townsend city manager following David Timmons, who held the job for 20 years, an unprecedented term of service for that particular position. On this week’s Compass, Charlie Bermant talks to Mauro live on the air to hear his views about Port Townsend’s future direction.
