(Airdate: May 27, 2020) Ann Soule, Resource Manager for the city of Sequim, talks with Nature Now host Mary Robson. She shares historical and current data about summer water supplies on the Olympic Peninsula.

This Tuesday morning, KPTZ broadcast the Public Health Updates, live from the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting.
Last Friday, our Commissioners approved the variance for moving into the governor’s new Safe Start Phased Plan and this was approved by the State Department of Health over the weekend. This will lift some of the current restrictions on business, restaurants and other activities here in town.
Dr. Tom Locke, Public Health Officer for Jefferson County and Willie Bence, Director of Emergency Management, provided information and guidance in order to ensure the health of our citizens.
(First airdate: May 26, 2020) Port Townsend poet Gerry McFarland comes to the KPTZ studio to talk about his writing poetry, serving on a literary magazine board, and putting together his first full-length collection, The Making.


(First airdate: May 26, 2020) NextDoor, a social platform relied upon by many in a community to exchange information and resources, relies on volunteers. Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can, speaks with volunteer and “Lead” Dan Needles about his role as a “Lead” and the value of this on-line community bulletin board to our community.

Your local community radio station celebrated its 9th birthday on May 14. Sincere gratitude to all our listeners for sending us your birthday wishes, and for your generous donations! The Northeast Olympic Peninsula has a wealth of locally-owned and operated restaurants that continue to create and provide necessary meals for our community. Whether ordering by phone or online, these eateries are providing curbside pickup, take-out, or delivery to get meals from their kitchens to you.

We join in, to applaud and encourage everyone to support our hard working chefs and local restaurants. Daily announcements on KPTZ feature the names and services now being provided by each establishment during the Stay Home, Stay Healthy orders. We are all in this together!

On Tossed Salad, host Phil Andrus and guest Lynn Sorensen, RN, discussed the Safe Start plan’s Phase 2 variance for Jefferson County, which is expected to be approved by the Washington Board of Health to begin after Memorial Day. They also talked about the difficulty in producing a COVID-19 vaccine. Lynn explained that the best possible vaccine would be one dose, would not have to be refrigerated, its production and distribution would be well coordinated, and all 7.5 billion people on earth would get vaccinated. That would be a miracle. And it’s not expected to happen.
