Our Working Waterfront – 6/09

Every month, KPTZ’S Chris Bricker, along with co-hosts Port Commissioner Pam Petranek and Port of Port Townsend’s Director Eron Berg, bring you the news, issues, and stories of the people that make up our vibrant maritime community.
This month, our Port’s Capital Project Director and Port Engineer Matt Klontz gives us an ongoing projects update. Pam gives us some historical perspective on Point Hudson – from the S’Klallam peoples, to boatbuilding and the evolution of a seaport, to the present-day boatyard of Sea Marine. Partners Pat Shannon and Chris Bakken, friends since childhood, are shepherding trade, craft and apprenticeship into Point Hudson’s 21st Century.

County Connections

(Airdate: June 9, 2023) KPTZ’s Chris Bricker sits in for host Jim Burke.  This week’s co-host, County Commissioner Heidi Eisenhour, emphasizes the importance of forests in Jefferson County and focuses on the history, overview, and legislative updates of Washington’s Trust Land Transfer Program, and introduces two key local conservation projects that have benefited from the Program over the years: the Quimper Wildlife Corridor, and the Dabob Bay Natural Area.  Special guests are Carrie Clendaniel, Preserve Manager for the Jefferson Land Trust and the Quimper Wildlife Corridor, and Peter Bahls, Executive Director of Northwest Watershed Institute.

KPTZ Seeks New Board Directors

Dear Friend of KPTZ,

As we approach our move to new studios at Fort Worden, we also are embarking on an exciting new epoch of growth and community service. The KPTZ Board of Directors is seeking talented candidates to help direct this community radio station into the future.

The KPTZ board is a policy-making body that sets the overall direction for the station. It hires, supports and oversees the station’s general manager, and approves and monitors the budget through its finance committee. Members attend one meeting a month and may also serve on standing or ad hoc committees.

Qualified individuals will have an interest in community radio and a passion for KPTZ’s mission, to build and strengthen our community through programming that is educational, entertaining and service-oriented. They must be able to work well with others and periodically take the lead. They must possess a willingness to advocate for the organization and to participate in fundraising efforts. Prior non-profit board experience is a plus. The KPTZ board strives to be reflective of its community, and members of all backgrounds and ethnicities are encouraged to apply.

Are you interested in joining our efforts to build community? If so, please write a letter of interest and email it to me by June 15, 2023.

Thanks!
Robert Ambrose
KPTZ Board President
