This month, Public Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry is back from maternity leave and for her first BOCC Public Health Report in three months gave a virus and vaccine update to the Commissioners, answered KPTZ listener questions (quite a few), and talked about the confusion due to the disconnect between the two Washingtons. She also offered hope and reassurance that there are many organizations across the country and in WA State who are trying to get out science-based vaccine recommendations. Director of Emergency Management, Willie Bence offered insights about local and state wildfires too, and a few words about wildland firefighters who are now under more stress because of the increased scrutiny of ICE agents.

We’ve visited the set built by the Japanese to film the movie “Dunhuang.” Fifteen kilometers later, we turned off the highway again and drove another two kilometers across the trackless Gobi to the edge of a rift valley. Steps led down to a series of caves overlooking the Dang River…..

OWL 360’s Assistant Director Zhaleh Almaee joins us today to tell us more!

(Airdate: September 2, 2025) Maryanne interviews John Paul Davies. owner of Key City Foods. John Paul bounced around for years trying to find his niche. While he was still in college he worked in seafood shops and found an affinity there. When he first came to Port Townsend he worked for New Day Fisheries setting up a big seafood market in a tent in their parking lot. It was quite successful until the winter rain and mud hit. Somehow shopping for seafood isn’t quite that appealing in heavy rain. John Paul ultimately started his own seafood shop thanks in part to a loan from the proverbial “bank of dad.” Seafood morphed into also selling meat. Today Key City supplies seafood and meat to restaurants all over western Washington. The shop is also open to the public. It rings up brisk sales but the bulk of his business — and profits —comes from restaurants and resorts.
