Friends of Lighthouse, part 2

(Airdate: May 16, 2023) Located at the edge of Admiralty Inlet is one of the more unique locations to volunteer — Point Wilson Lighthouse. One of the most important navigational aids in Washington, the lighthouse connects Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and has been serving the navigational needs of our waterways since 1879. Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can visits with Dick Richardson and Dave Ehnebuske on location to learn more about the Point Wilson Light Station Preservation Project and the unique volunteer opportunities at this iconic landmark. Part 2 of a two-part show.
#222 Bob Wheeler, Hadlock Sewer System

(Airdate: May 16, 2023) Maryanne interviews Bob Wheeler, the man behind the development of the much-anticipated Port Hadlock Sewer System. Construction of Phase #1 is finally beginning. When completed, the sewer system should radically change the housing situation on the peninsula. To put it in shorthand, current codes requiring septic systems basically allow one dwelling on each five-acre parcel. When the sewer system is fully operational, those same five acres could have over 200 residential units, including apartments. Businesses are also hemmed in by the current septic requirements. Some are already planning expansion. Bob expects Phase #1 to be completed in 2025.
ReCyclery Reopens

(Airdate: May 15, 2023) For months there was no sign of activity at the shuttered makeshift wooden building on the northwest corner of the old Mountain View School campus across from the municipal golf course that had housed the zealous missionary cycling organization known as the Recyclery. Then a couple of weeks ago came new signs of life. Host Steve Evans talks with Recyclery Acting Director Jordan Oleachea about the cycling nonprofit’s rebirth.
Our Working Waterfront ~ 5/12/23

Each Month during the noon hour, KPTZ’s Chris Bricker joins his co-hosts, Port Director Eron Berg, and Port of Port Townsend Commissioner Pam Petranek, to bring you news and stories surrounding our vibrant Maritime Community. The fishing fleet is preparing for this upcoming season. Most boats will be headed to Alaska. Alaska has the most prolific commercial fishing industry in the United States, producing more harvest volume than all other states combined. We’re heading out into the Boatyard today on Our Working Waterfront, to catch some of our hauled-out fishing fleet. We’ll visit with Greg Friedrichs, Captain of the Arminta, Grant Fletcher of fishing tender O.L.Elgin, along with David Griswold from the Shipwright’s Co-Op, and Greg Veitenhans, aboard the Voyager as he preps for the season with helpers and fisherwomen Lauren and Brenna. The attached sound file is an update of the April 14 show.
