Everybody Can

(Airdate: February 2, 2021) As part of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center team, Betsy Carlson oversees the Citizen Science projects. Around the world folks of all ages engage in citizen science – participating in projects in which volunteers and scientists work together to investigate real world concerns, “crowdsourcing” that has the added bonus of giving volunteers a real sense of community. On this program, Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can discusses with Bets what it means to be a Citizen Scientist and the role of Citizen Science at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.

(Airdate: January 19, 2020) Today’s guests, Jefferson County Historical Society Executive Director, Shelly Leavens and Tara McCauley, Director of Education and Public Programs, describe how this iconic nonprofit engages the region with unique and diverse stories of Jefferson County. Through collections, research, exhibits and programs, they bring our community together to share, learn and be inspired by the arts and our local heritage. From their First Friday Speaker Series to their recent “Dear 2020” letter campaign, we learn how JCHS endeavors to engage our community and foster programs that bring life to history and culture into our lives.

(Airdate: January 12, 2021) Volunteer Hosts serve as ambassadors of State Parks helping to achieve the state park mission to connect all Washingtonians to their natural and cultural heritage and provide memorable recreational and educational experiences. Listen as Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can converses with Jessica Norton, Washington State Parks Volunteer Coordinator, on the importance of camp volunteers as they strive to keep our parks welcoming and special places for the public to enjoy.

(Airdate: 9/29/2020) Local 2020, through action groups, works toward local sustainability and resilience – integrating ecology, economy and community through action and education. For the past three summers, “Resiliency of the Heart Action Group” has  hosted monthly art happenings. All ages worked together to create art, music, poetry, and photography.  Listen in as Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can speaks with Adrianna Santiago about how Covid 19 has both inspired and created challenges to this Local 2020 group.
