(Airdate: January 24, 2025) This week on County Connections, cohosts Jim Burke and Commissioner Heidi Eisenhour welcome Public Works Director Monte Reinders, P.E., County Engineer. They discuss progress on the Port Hadlock Sewer project, and roads in Jefferson County, especially the recent washout of the Hoh Road and the financial obstacles that stand in the way of that repair.

(Airdate: January 17, 2025) This week Jim Burke welcomes a new co-host County Commissioner for District 1 Heather Dudley-Nollette! They welcome Judy Shepherd, Finance Manager for Jefferson County. Topics include the various revenue streams that contribute to the general fund, and PILT (Payments in Lieu of Taxes).

(Airdate: January 10, 2025) This week on County Connections, Jim Burke and co-host Commissioner Greg Brotherton spoke with Viola Ware, Director of Housing and Community Outreach for OIyCap about the “Point in Time” count of the homeless population in the county which takes place on January 30th. They discuss the difficulties of the count in a rural county and the need for it, and how it affects funding that HUD disburses to the county for housing programs. (Airdate: December 20, 2024) This week, co-hosts Jim Burke and Commissioner Greg Brotherton welcome Monte Reinders, Jefferson County Engineer and Public Works DIrector. They discuss the Transportation Benefit District the County Commission just held a hearing on and voted to bring into existence. The goal is to increase funding for the county to keep up with road maintenance and construction, which continues to be more expensive as revenues to fund it remain flat. There is another public hearing on the matter in February of 2025. More info here.

They discuss the state of recycling, including the discontinuation of glass recycling here in the county.

(Airdate: November 22, 2024) This week, Commissioner Kate Dean and co-host Jim Burke welcome Shelby Smith, Director at Community Wellness Project. They discuss healthy food that is grown, prepped, and served at schools in Quilcene, Port Townsend, and now Chimacum. Garden Educators work with children on school campuses, planting, tending, harvesting, tasting, and learning together in the garden. They grow food for cooking classes, and when we they have extra they share with Food Services for use in school cafeterias!
