They discuss the difficulties of the count in a rural county and the need for it, and how it affects funding that HUD disburses to the county for housing programs. (Airdate: December 20, 2024) This week, co-hosts Jim Burke and Commissioner Greg Brotherton welcome Monte Reinders, Jefferson County Engineer and Public Works DIrector. They discuss the Transportation Benefit District the County Commission just held a hearing on and voted to bring into existence. The goal is to increase funding for the county to keep up with road maintenance and construction, which continues to be more expensive as revenues to fund it remain flat. They discuss healthy food that is grown, prepped, and served at schools in Quilcene, Port Townsend, and now Chimacum. Garden Educators work with children on school campuses, planting, tending, harvesting, tasting, and learning together in the garden. They grow food for cooking classes, and when we they have extra they share with Food Services for use in school cafeterias!
