Taylor’s question might have been “how do we keep PT weird” or perhaps it was “how do we maintain the unique character of our community in the face of social and economic of change?”. Taylor Clark and Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro welcomed Emily Bufford, Library Manager – Youth & Outreach Services to talk about the summer reading program. Adventure begins at your library. We talked about the Magical Adventures Ferry House workshop, the Backyard Adventures Raising Chickens program, as well Yoga Storytime and a bunch of other events. KPTZ’s Taylor Clark was joined by Laura Parsons, Civil Engineer with the City of Port Townsend along with Danny Milholland from the Production Alliance. Laura is the Project Manager for the Discovery Road project and Danny has been planning a big ribbon cutting event to celebrate the project. The event starts at 2pm this Saturday, June 15 and the ribbon will be cut just after 2:30. Ride your bike up and join in!

Taylor Clark and John Mauro were joined by Jake Beattie, Executive Director of Northwest Maritime Center. We talked, of course, about the upcoming Race to Alaska which kicks off this week, and also about a lot of other interesting things you may not be aware that Northwest Maritime does to help connect people to the water.

We talked about how we can improve communications and through that resolve issues where there are different viewpoints. Taylor Clark and John Mauro did not have a guest this week. They talked about various topics, including the wind-up of the Discovery Road Project and a celebration planned for June 15. They particularly looked at the process to find a replacement for City Council Member Aislinn Palmer, who is stepping down.

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and co-host John Mauro (Port Townsend City Manager) talked with Bill Wise, Steering Committee Chair of the Housing Solutions Network about Workforce Housing: what it is, why it is important, what we can do to improve housing availability. Bill specifically asked all of us to take a survey to help understand where we are as a community on this topic. The survey is available here.
