Brewocracy Now ~ 8/17/23

Guests on today’s Brewnow included Shelly Leavens, Communications & Marketing Manager for the City of Port Townsend and Steve King, Director of Public Works. We talked about needed maintenance for the sewer system. There was a report at City Council last Monday that outlined what is required and funding for that work. We also learned a bit about the city’s mulching project out at the county transfer station.

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and co-host John Mauro welcomed Director of Parks & Recreation Strategy Carrie Hite to discuss the two golf course proposals and the ‘third way’ alternative proposed two weeks ago at City Council. There’s been a lot of heat and light around this issue and Taylor wanted to see if John could talk him down. See if you think that happened.

Taylor Clark and John Mauro talked about the meeting last Monday with city department heads and council which is a kickoff for the 2024 budgeting process. John fielded questions about the leaky pipe at North Beach (Spoiler: It’s not a sewer outfall, it drains the lagoon) and the deer problem (Note: Please don’t feed the deer!) John also gave us a heads up about some thinking that is going on around a possible Transportation Budget District (TBD) which is a method of funding needed street repairs. The whole conversation can be heard right here!

Brewocracy Now ~ 7/06/23

Taylor Clark and John Mauro discussed the Fort Worden PDA, as well as some needed sewer repairs. The theme appeared to be “how the sausage is made” and poo! Listen in and find out why…. Also, John extended an invitation to join in for important meeting that will be held all day Monday with both city elected officials and city department heads as they start collecting information for next years budget.

Brewocracy Now ~ 6/29/23

Taylor Clark and John Mauro caught up on what Taylor’s got going on (hint: he’s stepped up to be the interim General Manager for KPTZ as we search for a new GM).  They talked about how important it is in a place like Port Townsend to step up and get involved. There was a good question about the inclusion of housing in the latest revision of the golf course proposals. Also, upcoming at Monday’s city council meeting will be a report from the Financial Sustainability Task Force that should be worth checking out. John made the point that we need to make clear choices about what we do, and also what we choose not to do.
