Witnessing Climate Change

(Airdate: December 13, 2021) Maria Coryell-Martin, artist, and Katie Morrison, science educator, created the exhibition Witnessing Climate Change at the Jefferson County Historical Museum.  Their field work, on the North Slope of Alaska, brings the long-term research of  ornithologist George Divoky to us in multiple dimensions – with artifacts, data, and on-location art.  Also, PT High School Media Lab student Zoe Cook presents a report on the school’s annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration.

Rose Isler and Aeneas Valley Community Foundation

Historical Society Executive Director and Summer Band Brass Quintet member Robert Nathan discuss the upcoming Holiday Extravaganza and Rose and Doug Isler describe the the Aeneas Valley Country Store and the Community Foundation which they have founded. Erin Reading; Decriminalize Entheogens

(Airdate: November 29, 2021) In the first part of the November 29 Attention Please!, Lily Haight interviews Erin Reading, a local leader of the group that is working to build a community around the use of natural psychedelic plants and fungi. In the second part, Phil Andrus interviews P. J. Harris, a board member of the Sequim Good Governance League, which successfully worked to elect and re-elect politically-moderate members to the Sequim City Council.

New Exhibition Director at Northwind Art & Story Walk at Kah Tai Lagoon

(Airdate: November 8, 2021) Attention Please! host Larry Stein talks with Teresa Verraes, Exec. Director of Northwind Art, about Michael D’Allesandro’s departure as Exhibitions Director, and the new Director, Kathleen Garrett. Larry then takes us on a Story Walk at Kah Tai Lagoon, a new installation of Children’s books by the Port Townsend Public Library, that can be read as you walk the Nature Trail.  Library Director, Melody Sky Weaver tells us about the project. 

Making Caskets

(Airdate: November 1, 2021) Attention Please! for November 1, All Souls Day, tells of neighbors building caskets for their friends and family members who have recently passed. This short documentary, produced in the early 1980s by Phil Andrus, was based on interviews of women and men who lived on an island north of Port Townsend, a location they preferred not to identify.

(Airdate: October 25, 2021) KPTZ host Steve Evans talks with 2021 Eleanor Stopps Environmental Leadership Award winner Connie Gallant, who was a key organizer of a grassroots fight to prevent the clear-cutting of Mt. Walker years ago and has been part of virtually every fight to preserve wilderness on the Olympic Peninsula since.

The Jefferson County Community Wellness Project

(Airdate: October 18, 2021) The Jefferson County Community Wellness Project will be hosting their annual Harvest Dinner Fundraiser at the Wheel Inn Motor Movie on October 28, 2021. In this segment of Attention Please! we interview Shelby Smith, the Wellness Project Coordinator, and Stacey Larsen, Director of Food Services for the Port Townsend School District, to learn more about their Farm to School programs and how they are teaching and feeding students in the time of COVID. PT Marine Science Center Searching for a New Director

(Airdate: October 11, 2021) Janine Boire, Executive Director of the PT Marine Science Center, recently announced that she will step down as Director, and that the organization will look for a new leader for the next phase of the Center’s move to their new headquarters on Water Street in PT.  Janine and Diane Baxter, the Board Chair of the PTMSC, discuss the leadership change, and the search for a new Executive Director.  Host is Larry Stein.
