Economics of Happiness

(Airdate: November 28, 2022) As we enter the darkest phase of a year that has featured more than a few dark turns, this week on Attention Please! we dig into the KPTZ archives to bring you a few rays of light from the 2017 Economics of Happiness Conference at Fort Worden, which brought together some of the world’s best thinkers on the subjects of sustainability, happiness, and localization.

Artistic Juxtapositions and a Museum Makeover

Curator Stephen Bates describes the work of Rachel Feferman shown in the current exhibit Juxtapositions. Historical Society staff member Tara McCauley gives an update of Historical Society news, and Ms. McCauley and host Phil Andrus promote the upcoming Holiday Extravaganza.

PT High School Music Program

(Airdate: November 14, 2022) The PT High School music program is working toward an ambitious trip for the High School Orchestra to visit Los Angeles. They will experience music in a major city and play alongside other school-age musicians. Larry Stein attended a fundraising concert and spoke with Daniel Ferland, the head of the PT High School music program, and Dr. James Ray, respected regional music educator. We’ll also hear some clips from the concert.

Cuban Missile Crisis

(Airdate: November 7, 2022) October was the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and host Jim Burke spoke with local activist Peter Lumsdaine, with Physicians for Social Responsibility. They discuss the Cuban Missile Crisis and the parallels to the current climate of distrust, saber rattling and threat of nuclear war between Russia, NATO and the United States.

New Exec. Dir. of PT Marine Science Center
