#717 Plankton Worlds, part 1

(Reprise airdate: April 2, 2025) Ancient bacteria, single cells and long strands of strange little plants, plus minute single celled animals and weird fantastical animal larvae – these are the members of the Earth’s massive and hugely important planktonic ecosystems. Come with Nan Evans as she talks with Dr. Gretchen Rollwagen-Bollens about this strange world and its significance to global ecology and human well being. Consider eutrophication, the world’s biggest threat to water quality or cyanobacteria and one of the causes of toxic algal blooms such as the ones in our local Andeson Lake.

Renovated space at the Jefferson County Museum of Art & History

KPTZ’s Chris Bricker, and Siobhan Canty, President & CEO of Jefferson Community Foundation, explore new paradigms and new developments from our County’s good people doing good work. As our Jefferson County Museum of Art + History completes their work to make it more accessible and welcoming, all of us have been curiously anticipating its grand reopening on April 5. With electricians arriving on-site, painters moving into public areas, and key structural modifications underway, much has been happening behind the scenes! The Museum’s Executive Director Tara McCauley, and Board President Ann Welch give us a special preview of the renovations, along with some inside info on upcoming shows.

#262 David Ehnebuske ~ Tech Pioneer

(Airdate: April 1, 2025) Maryanne interviews David Ehnebuske, a tech pioneer and long-time IBM trouble shooter. David had assignments that took him around the globe — China, India, Western Europe, Japan and many other destinations. When living in New Mexico his wife taught at a predominantly Navajo high school. This was yet another cultural learning curve. In fact, that’s what David loves the most — learning about different cultures. Now that he’s in PT he’s part of the team that has been restoring the Point Wilson Lighthouse. His curiosity is endless and he loves a challenge, whether restoring lighthouses or building specialized cameras.

We visited the spring where General Huo Qubing shared a jug of rare wine with his troops.
