#263 Sam Harper: Cleaning Raw Sewage

(Airdate: April 15, 2025)  Maryanne interviews Samantha Harper, the county’s Director of Waste Management. That means she’s in charge of making sure the new Hadlock sewer system becomes a reality. She estimates that by mid to late June we will have an operational sewer system at least for a small section of the territory. Existing septic systems will be “de-commissioned” and raw sewage will flow through the brand new treatment plant. This has major economic implications for the entire county. Zoning changes will allow development of many more commercial buildings and residential properties. Samantha (aka ’Sam’) believes the entire project will be up and running sometime in 2027.

Mollie O’Brien and Rich Moore Bring it to the Palindrome

Vocal Powerhouse Mollie O’Brien and Guitarist Rich Moore Bring it to the Palindrome. KPTZ is excited to join Rainshadow Recording in welcoming singer Mollie O’Brien and guitarist Rich Moore to the Palindrome in Port Townsend on April 17 at 7:30pm.   For nearly 30 years they have quietly made it their mission to find, mine, and reinvent other artists’ songs. Mollie and Rich are geniuses at the craft of interpretation in the way that great singers have made the songs of their era their own. As songwriters they add their own tunes to the canon of American roots music and show us they’re completely at home with their musical selves. Mollie has long been known as a singer who doesn’t recognize musical boundaries, and audiences love her fluid ability to make herself at home in any genre while never sacrificing the essence of the song. She is a singer at the top of her game, who’s not afraid to take risks both vocally and in the material she chooses. Mollie won a Grammy in 1997 for her participation in Sugar Hill Records True Life Blues and is a member of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Rich, while known to produce some of the funniest onstage commentary, is also a powerhouse guitar player who can keep up with O’Brien’s twists and turns, from blues to traditional folk tunes to jazz and rock. He creates a band with just his guitar and, as a result, theirs is an equal partnership.
