YMCA Building Futures in the New Year

(First airdate: January 23, 2018) The New Year offers opportunity to reflect on one’s legacy and impact. Everybody Can host Missy Nielsen talks with the folks at the Jefferson County YMCA Building Futures program, one such opportunity. Learn more about this program that matches local students with caring, supportive, and stable adult mentors. Though some of these students struggle academically, this is not simply a tutoring program. Dana Nixon, the coordinator for this program, illuminates us on the many ways one can engage, connect and impact students in our region. Happy New Year!

Blue Herons Land at KPTZ

Among Friday’s guests on January 19’s Tossed Salad were 7th and 8th graders who play sports this year at Blue Heron Middle School, along with two boys’ coaches. Host Phil Andrus brought this talented, bright group of student athletes into KPTZ’s broadcast studio for a spirited half-hour live interview.

Their spot came between music by harpist Laurie Riley and singing by the Threshold Choir ~ truly a mixed set of ingredients, as always at 91.9 Friday afternoons from 1 to 5pm.

Our town host Maryanne McNellis talks with Judy Lundgren, co-owner of the Hilltop Tavern, one of the few authentic taverns left around the region. As drinking habits have changed, so has the tavern. Judy’s been doing charity bingo nights for about 20 years now – raising tens of thousands of dollars for community causes. Music events range from honky tonk to punk or metal. And now she’s added a ‘painting night’ where a local artist coaches people to create their own masterpiece.
