Class of… Special: Nino Tempo

Okay boys and girls, prepare yourselves. Jerry Osborne will interview Nino Tempo on a very special Class of… show on Wed, May 16, 1-2pm during the KPTZ Spring Fund Drive.

Nino will talk about the hits he had with his sister, April Stevens, as well as the countless sessions on which he played sax and/or piano. Of special interest are his many sessions with Phil Spector and the legendary Wrecking Crew.  You do remember that 2008 documentary, don’t you?

The photo here is from his new (2018) CD album Purveyor of Balladry, and we will have the radio premier of three tracks from that collection on the show.

Help Us Celebrate Our 7th Birthday!

To celebrate our seventh birthday, we’re kicking off the KPTZ Spring Fund Drive week with an ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE on Monday the 14th from noon to 4pm.

May 14, 2011 was a momentous day in Jefferson County history!  Why? Because that’s when Port Townsend Radio first went on the air with eclectic, authentic community radio.

So it’s party time! And it’s time to ask for your donations to keep KPTZ alive and kicking as the soundtrack to life on the Quimper Peninsula.

In seven years we’ve grown and, with your help, home-grown radio will continue to thrive both on the air at 91.9FM and streaming at KPTZ.org.

Stop in this Monday for our Anniversary Open House right here, in the portable building at Mountain View Commons. And be sure to listen for radio treats all this coming week at your favorite station – KPTZ.

#110 Angela Hewitson, NW Maritime Center

(First airdate: May 8, 2018) PARTY TIME AT THE MARITIME CENTER. Our Town Host Maryanne McNellis interviews Angela Hewitson, the Community Engagement Coordinator at the Northwest Maritime Center. That tongue-twister title means that Angela is in charge of running down a list of some 1,400 “active volunteers” and getting about 500 of them lined up for the annual Wooden Boat Festival. She’s also helping out with the R2AK race, now in its fourth year. Hopefully Angela’s love of woodworking and her hospitality industry background will help her bring off the parties (and, yes, the Festival too).

Compass for the Week of 5/07/18

May is National Bicycle month, in recognition of which fact we are bringing you a reprise of a program on bicycle safety originally aired on Friday, April 13th as part of Phil Andrus’ Tossed Salad program.
