Compass for the Week of 12/24/2018

Canada-based Caravan Stage Company was created in 1970 by Paul Kirby and Adriana Kelder as a one-wagon puppet show traveling on Vancouver Island.  Over the years they grew into a 25 person company of actors, musicians, artists and technicians, touring in 6 large wagons, each drawn by a team of perfectly matched Clydesdale horses.  Twenty years and twenty-thousand horse-drawn miles later, Caravan Stage Company took to the sea on a replica of a Thames River Sailing Barge. Their adventures have taken them all over the world, and along the rivers, lakes, seacoast and waterways of North America. KPTZ caught up with the troupe when they visited Point Hudson Marina for a series of shows. In this second installment of his coverage of their visit, KPTZ reporter Chris Bricker goes shipboard to meet the cast and crew of Caravan Stage Company’s production, Nomadic Tempest.

KPTZ Wishes You a Merry Christmas!

As we approach the shortest day of the year, we have more time to enjoy the colorful Christmas lights. Inside the KPTZ studio, our own Donn Trethewey chalks a colorful poinsettia for our enjoyment. So we thought we’d share it with you.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

KPTZ’s Live Stream Was Down

Early morning on solstice day Friday, we experienced a computer crash of the machine that encodes KPTZ’s programming for live streaming online.  KPTZ’s engineering crew has summoned a master of Rivendell, and they’ve been working around the clock (well, almost) to find and configure another computer. As of Sunday morning, this service repair is still in progress.

If the forces of nature cooperate, KPTZ’s stream may hopefully be restored in time for our audience to listen online in time for Christmas, when we have some extra special holiday programs in store. Yet another reason KPTZ greatly appreciates your year-end donations to the Good Ship 91.9 FM!

We regret any inconvenience caused by not being able to hear shows like Tossed Salad and Dance Party in Your Living Room for the past couple of days, and appreciate your patience.

11:30am Sunday Update: The live stream is back up! Thanks to our expert engineering team, we are back on the audible internet. Enjoy!

#126 Daniel Knudson, Feasting on Seven Fishes

(First airdate: December 18, 2018) DANIEL KNUDSON – FEASTING ON SEVEN FISHES. Our Town Host Maryanne McNellis interviews Daniel Knudson, chef and resident cooking guru at Key City Fish. Daniel recounts his adventures through various Port Townsend restaurants – including the “paranormal” (or ghost) sightings that are common at venues such as the Manresa Castle. For this holiday season, Daniel explores the Southern Italian tradition of the Feast of Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. We live in a seaport, so even if we are not all Italian we can try to cook like one (with Daniel’s recipes, of course)!
