On Monday, April 6 at 9:45am, Dr. Tom Locke, Jefferson County Public Health Officer, and Willie Bence, Director of Emergency Management provided public updates during the County Commissioners’ weekly meeting about COVID-19 and our county’s preparedness.

KPTZ broadcast via 91.9FM and streamed at KPTZ.org this timely COVID-19 information, which was also videostreamed live and recorded for online viewing any time thereafter at the Jefferson County website.

Following Monday’s COVID-19 update, the commissioners heard reports on the health of our local business community. Brian Kuh, Executive Director of EDC/Team Jefferson and Arlene Alen, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, discussed steps being taken and resources available for recovery during this pandemic.

Host Phil Andrus welcomed KPTZ Virus Watch Team member Kathleen Keenan, who retired after a 20-year career as communicable disease investigator for San Diego Public Health. Topics include the current COVID-19 case count in Jefferson County and local testing capacity, along with recommendations to avoid contamination. This segment will be a regular feature at 1pm opening up the Tossed Salad mix on upcoming Fridays, alternating between Kathleen and KPTZ VTeam member Lynn Sorensen, RN, BSN, retired after 36 years.

On Thursday, April 2, Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro conducted his weekly coffee meeting with the public on KPTZ’s Discovery Road, with host Tim Quackenbush.
