Through Science to Health ~ 10/02/20

Chris Bricker, KPTZ host of Through Science to Health series, imparted current information on novel coronavirus infection cases throughout the nation, and, as of today, those numbers include the president of the United States and the First Lady.

Lynn Sorensen, RN relayed numbers of cases in Jefferson County and our surrounding counties. Lynn also reiterated topics from Jefferson County’s Public Health Officer, Dr. Locke’s briefing to the BOCC from Monday September 28th.

Briefly mentioned was the New Yorker article (September 28, 2020 issue) about Max Kennedy’s (grandson of Robert Kennedy) own experience working as a volunteer in Jared Kushner’s Supply Chain Task Force in April 2020.

Brewocracy Now with John Mauro ~ 10/01

Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro is on KPTZ with a web-based format, in a weekly time slot Thursdays, from 12:10 to 12:40pm.

Today’s topics included:

  • City of Port Townsend Public Works Director, Steve King, discussed the Discovery Rd. project and the temporary traffic circles on Washington St.
  • Golf Course update

Booklovers’ Cafe ~ Faith Pray

(First airdate: September 29, 2020) Author and Illustrator Faith Pray joins Cris to introduce her first book, The Starkeeper. A beautifully illustrated children’s book that is a fable for our time that shows the effect caring, sharing, and connection can have on individuals and a community. It is altogether uplifting.

Marine Debris in Our Backyard

(Airdate: September 30, 2020) Marine debris are often a threat to safe boating and water quality in our region. Most obviously, marine debris can be a major navigational hazard for boaters. Less obvious, but just as harmful is the smaller debris that can and do make their way into the seafood we eat. Andrew Mason is the Pacific Northwest Regional Coordinator and Pacific Region team lead for NOAA’s Marine Debris Program and shares what types of debris gathers in the Pacific Northwest and how boaters and beach goers alike can all help reduce the debris on our beaches and in our water.
