(Airdate: May 18, 2021) Has the thought of a child without a birthday cake ever crossed your mind? Hard to imagine, but it happens. Cake4Kids is powered by an amazing and compassionate group of volunteers who are mostly home-bakers. They bake the cake at home and deliver it to one of our partner agencies who support the youth. Cake4Kids supports the family by providing a custom birthday cake so every child can celebrate their special day “like any other kid”. Listen in to Everybody Can as Missy Nielsen talks with Cynthia Castro Sweet. Learn how these sweet gestures bring smiles to these families.

KPTZ Radio Celebration
Your local community radio station is 10 years old! KPTZ is hosting an on-air celebration Thursday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 19. We’re looking back on a decade of achievements and talking about What’s Next for the station. This is a pivotal moment for KPTZ, as we embark now on our relocation to KPTZ’s new studios at Fort Worden’s Makers Square, to be complete later this year.
To round out our week of special programming and fundraising, on Wednesday May 19, we’re inviting you to stop by our table outside the current KPTZ station at the Mountain View complex from 2 to 4pm, when you’ll have a chance to meet and greet with our KPTZ DJ/hosts. Everyone who donates can pick up a new sticker and a KPTZ mug or pint glass. Dalana, Jerry Osborne, Buzzy, Charlie Bermant, and others will be in attendance. Pop by and say hi!
Thanks to generous donors, including our own KPTZ DJs, who contributed to a pool of matching funds, all new donations during What’s Next week are being matched, essentially doubling each and every donation! Our goal is to raise $50,000 to fund the station’s budgetary needs, stay tuned and we’ll update on progress!

Then Chris Bricker and Co-Host, Port Commissioner Pam Petranek take a walk through the boatyard to encounter some of our Women of the Waterfront. They speak with shipwrights Esther Whitmore of Haven Boatworks and Angi Lungu of the Shipwrights’ Co-Op. Then they visit Port Townsend sailing legend, Carol Hasse and her wooden boat Lorraine in the marina, and finally a delightful conversation with Erika and Alyson of Port Townsend Sails, locally known as the Sail Loft, in Point Hudson.
