Cats in Our Laps ~ 9/18/22

Cats in Our Laps this Sunday is from KPTZ’s Tossed Salad archives. The salad bowl includes: self proclaimed “Song Collectors” Sylvia Herold and Chuck Ervin, who moved to Port Townsend in 2013. In hour two, Don White reads a short story, “Tennessee’s Partner”, by Bret Harte. He is followed by the Kings of Mongrel Folks, composed of two Northwest folk notables ~ Mark Graham on harmonica and Orville Johnson on steel guitar and vocals. The third hour features “Choro: the Music and the People” co-hosted by Al Bergstein. The compiled program was produced by Alex Henley and hosted by Phil Andrus. This coming Sunday from 7 to 10pm, right here on KPTZ. 

Wooden Boat Festival Live Broadcast Saturday 12noon-4pm

After a two-year hiatus of in-person festivities, KPTZ is thrilled that the Wooden Boat Festival is back! The 45th Annual Wooden Boat Festival takes place September 9-11, in and around Point Hudson and the NW Maritime Center. KPTZ will be broadcasting live from the festival on Saturday from noon to 4pm. KPTZ’s broadcast will be at the Wee Nip Bar, at the tip of Point Hudson. All are welcome to the festivities.

12:00 – Phil Andrus with Barb Trailer, WBF Festival and Events Director
12:10 – Carla Main Combo:  Carla Main, vocals; Jim Oliver, guitar; Dirk Anderson, bass
12:50 – Interview: Diana Talley on the growing presence of women in all aspects of the marine trades
1:00 – Tania and Mike Opland, Vocals and instrumentals on variety of ancient instruments
1:45 – Interview: Dennis and Pat McGuire on “The Log of Calypso”, interviewed by Chris Bricker
2:00 – Bobbi Nikles and Sue Thompson, vocals, fiddle and guitar
2:45 – Interview: Alex Wilken, Seattle Boat Works, by Jim Burke
3:00Interview: Susan Conrad, kayak adventures
3:15 – Kristin and Otto Smith, concertina, fiddle and guitar

This is the biggest festival of its kind, with thousands of attendees and hundreds of wooden boats to explore.  More information is at woodenboat.org

Our Working Waterfront ~ 9/09/22

(Airdate: September 9, 2022) Pete Langley has been the owner of the Port Townsend Foundry since he re-established it in 1983, nearly 100 years later. The use of heritage techniques as well as modern technology allows Port Townsend Foundry’s craftspeople to produce pieces of continuing history.  KPTZ’s Chris Bricker and Co-Host Eron Berg, Port of Port Townsend’s Director, join Pete for an up-close-and-personal tour, along with some sage insights about craftsmanship and about the niche Port Townsend Foundry serves in the Industry.
