Solitary Soldiers of Service ~ Volunteering in the Shadows

More often than not, these folks choose to remain unnoticed. Missy Nielsen, host of Everybody Can, was able to convince one of these solitary soldiers of service to speak on what inspires and informs their decision to volunteer in this way. (Airdate: December 26, 2022) This week on Attention Please! we dig into the KPTZ archives to bring you two more presentations from the 2017 Economics of Happiness Conference held late that year at Port Townsend’s Fort Worden. It was a weekend-long event that brought together some of the world’s most prominent thinkers, writers, and activists in the sustainability and localization movements to “discuss, discover, and devise better systems for now and the future,” as the event’s website put it. This week we hear from Community Sourced Capital co-founder Rachel Maxwell, and organic farming and urban agriculture pioneer Michael Ableman, who were both on hand to lead workshops at the conference.

Musical Fruit is an effervescent morning show, airing Thursdays from 9:30-11am that affirms non-linear, zoot-suit states of mind. DJ Goodwoman plays jump blues, rhythm and soul, chanson, exotica, swing, indie folk (old and new), stirring tunes from whatever genre, and rock ‘n’ roll in all its iterations. Your intrepid host also promises tarot readings, saxophone spotlights, cuts from the weird and wild vault, oddball and/or worldly insights, and interactive toe-dips into the realm of pure imagination.

DJ Goodwoman moved to Port Townsend right before the pandemic. She was born in the general vicinity, left for quite awhile, and then felt called to return – to live by the sea, with the trees, in the wind. She’s wanted to be a DJ since she was 9 years old. Dreams do come true! Email DJ Goodwoman
