A special broadcast day celebrating the Art of Radio is happening at KPTZ on Monday, around the departure of General Manager Kate Ingram, on her last day serving in that role. As the voice for our community, many KPTZ volunteers and our staff have worked together to create the local programming that comes out over the 91.9 FM airwaves, and this is an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments. Stop by all day long! Enter the drawing for a pair of 3-day THING Fest passes, enjoy some goodies, and wish Kate and all our volunteers and staff well, in support of the art of community radio! And if you can’t make it by, we encourage you to raise a glass in tribute to this Little Station That Could by using the blue Donate Now button (above), to help keep us broadcasting!
8-9:30am – Buzzy Donahue Show. Buzzy kicks off the day with Donn Trethewey and Diane Urbani de la Paz, as a farewell bookend to Kate Ingram and her days as KPTZ general manager.
9:30-11am – The Jim B. Show. The Art of Radio is the theme.
12-1pm – Attention Please! Phil Andrus hosts a full hour with Kate in the booth to chat, plus a swarm of KPTZ folks to cheer on Kate and KPTZ.
1-3pm – Boxed Chocolates with The Briceman. Join the Briceman for his special music show featuring music from every decade from the 60s thru the 2020s. Dave Long, Chris Bricker, and Taylor Clark will also be on hand.
3-5pm – Interstellar Underwear. DJ Mars adopts the guise of “DJ Badman” and is joined by DJ Goodwoman. We welcome Kate Ingram to the show (as part of the day’s special programming on “The Art of Radio”) and play some of her favorite songs. And, yes there will be 45s.
8-9pm – Fiddle Tunes Free Friday Rebroadcast with Phil Andrus. Fiddle Tunes returns with the rebroadcast of the Free Friday concert enjoyed earlier this month at Fort Worden Commons, and aired live on KPTZ. On stage were two bands, Hard Drive, featuring Tatiana Hargreaves on fiddle, and the music of the Basque Country of Spain performed by Ospa. The show concludes with an interview by Phil Andrus, talking with Kevin Carr of Ospa, who himself concludes the interview with a simple silly tale of marital relationships.

Please join KPTZ and the Jefferson County Fair for the Cowboy Dance at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 29 at 7pm. The fair is kicking off with a beginning country 2-step lesson taught by Janice Eklund and Ben Thomas, followed by a live performance by Buck Ellard Band. And don’t forget to bring your homemade cupcakes with a 4H twist for the Cupcake Party!

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and co-host John Mauro welcomed Director of Parks & Recreation Strategy Carrie Hite to discuss the two golf course proposals and the ‘third way’ alternative proposed two weeks ago at City Council. There’s been a lot of heat and light around this issue and Taylor wanted to see if John could talk him down. See if you think that happened.
