JCIRA, part 2
(Airdate: October 31, 2023) On this episode of Everybody Can we bring the second of a 3-part series focused on immigration to our listeners. The Jefferson County Immigrant Rights Advocates (JCIRA) are invested in the lives of those who are immigrating to our community. Facing multiple challenges, JCIRA comes alongside assisting their needs with the help of an outreach coordinator who helps them to navigate these challenges. Join us as Missy Nielsen visits with Natalia Duran, JCIRA Outreach Coordinator. Not only does Natalia help to build bridges across the communities they are settling into, but she also serves as an advocate providing vital assistance to immigrant families. Learn about how her passion was informed by volunteerism.
Adventuress Cooking
(Airdate: October 30, 2023) KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and Jim Burke head to boat haven to meet with Adventuress cook George Clark to get a crew’s eye view of what goes on in the galley to keep everyone aboard well fed. Adventuress is a 133′ gaff-rigged schooner built in 1913 that is operated by the non-profit organization Sound Experience, providing environmental education in the Salish Sea.
County Connections
(Airdate: October 27, 2023) Jim Burke‘s co-host was County Commissioner Heidi Eisenhour. Their guests are John Bellow of Spring Rain Farm, Nichole Witham of Chimacum Farm Stand, and Amanda Millholland of Jefferson County Farmer’s Markets. They talked about the “end of the growing season” which really never ends.

The Black Feathers Perform Live at the Palindrome
KPTZ joins Rainshadow Recording in welcoming back UK based singer-songwriter duo the Black Feathers to the Palindrome in Port Townsend on Thursday, November 9 at 7:30pm. The Black Feathers possess the rare ability to write songs that are both modern and ancient. Ray Hughes and Sian Chandlers joined forces musically and in life in 2012, and haven’t let up since. Americana, folk, and acoustic indie rock coexist side by side in their music, making for a live performance full of chemistry.
JCIRA, part 1
(Airdate: October 26, 2023) History is steeped in ideas sparked over cups of coffee. This humble cup of coffee is one of the origin stories of the Jefferson County Immigrant Rights Advocates (JCIRA). JCIRA serves our newer residents, immigrants, who are seeking to rebuild their lives, often fractured by poverty, conflict and political instability. Join Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can for the first part of a special 3-part series on this important topic. Board member Jean Walat helps to explain the often-misunderstood aspects and underpinnings of immigration as well as the services provided through JCIRA that serve to ease their settling in.
