Clint Thompson and Asa Clifford

KPTZ’s Chris Bricker joins co-hosts Port of Port Townsend’s Director Eron Berg and Commissioner Pam Petranek to bring you news updates and stories surrounding our vibrant maritime community. Last month Charlie Syberg told us the story of his acquisition and restoration of Nonchalant, a stunning 50 foot Motor Yacht from a bygone era. In this edition, Pam and Chris talk with shipwright Clint Thompson who gives us his life-changing POV of Nonahalant’s.rebirth. Then we wander into the boatyard and meet up with one of Clint’s two business partners, Asa Clifford. Below the keel of fishing troller Rose Marie, we talk about their newly-formed 10th Street Boatworks, and how Nonchalant was a catalyst for three shipwrights (Clint, Asa, and Taylor Clark) to come together as a team. Chris drops by Port Headquarters to share some Holiday cheer with Eron Berg.

#276 Bob Wheeler – Golf Pro?

(Airdate: December 9, 2025) Maryanne interviews Bob Wheeler, president of the Friends of the PT Golf Park. The nonprofit group has just received a 20-year extension on its 2-year trial lease. They have recently upgraded the grounds and driving range. Newer types of golf – both disc golf and fling golf – are attracting the younger crowd ($5 or $3 after 5pm). A kids’ playground will be opening soon as will what’s usually called “putt-putt” miniature golf. The clubhouse and pro shop are busy. With the restaurant open, plans are afoot to make the downstairs into a community center with pool tables, darts, etc. Golf tournaments are scheduled. In addition, it will soon be a venue for weddings and other large parties. The group’s mission is to make the 58-acre site enticing to PT’s entire population, not just hard-core golfers. Walking paths are being added. But golf is important too! The high school golf teams all play for free at any time. Lessons are available to kids and adults. “There’s a lot of fun activities planned such as ‘Manhattan Mondays’ and weekend brunch,” says Bob. Website: ptgolfpark.org.

Silk

But we may as well have been in the middle of the Gobi Desert as we stood there waiting for anything with wheels….

Brewocracy Now ~ 12/04/25

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro were joined by Katy Goodman, Arts & Culture Coordinator for the Port Townsend Creative District, who let us know about the nomination process Port Townsend Arts Awards. Information on how to nominate someone is available at https://ptcreativedistrict.org/art-awards/. We were also joined by Eron Berg, the Executive Director of the Port of Port Townsend, who made an impassioned case for open-hearted participation in the process of finding community based solutions to the problems faced by local government. This is a poor paraphrase of what he was saying, listen in to hear what he actually said… its good.

(Airdate: December 4, 2025) Join us for the December episodeDianna and Mary Beth delve into seed catalogs, how to interpret the codes, and how to make your choices for spring planting. Julia and Barbara talk about the care and planting of live Christmas trees and how to look after hummingbirds in the winter.
