Short Step Back in Time

(Airdate: February 12, 2014) From the archives of Tossed Salad comes A Short Step Back in Time, in which Leader publisher-emeritus Scott Wilson interviews Mark Welch, a Port Townsend native whose roots stretch to the early days of the city. Of particular interest are the changes to the culture of the Port Townsend as young ex-urbanites arrived and brought with them skills and interests which turned the city from one of fishing and logging to one of art galleries and festivals. Hosted by Phil Andrus.

For a deeper dive into this information, John directed interested listeners to two documents which were part of last Monday’s City Council meetings packet: Link 1 and Link 2.

Community Tides ~ 2/06/24

The Port Townsend High School Audio Visual Club is presenting showcases of student work from all Media Lab classes. The events are fundraisers for the A.V. Club and their goal of taking a field trip to Los Angeles. We have two student guests, both of whom represent the A.V. Club at the High School. A.V. Club Vice President Biaani Egeler and Club Treasurer Tanya Cao are both in their senior year at the high school. They’ll talk about exciting plans for their gap years before college. Mentoring and cheering the Media Lab on is the magic energy of PTHS Media Lab’s teacher David Egeler, better known around here at KPTZ as DJ David Bonobo. Our guests tell of their aspirations and how their field trips into the depths of the Hollywood film industry have prompted and supported their career instincts in media and the arts, both in film and photography.

#657 The Sense of Wonder

(Airdate: February 7, 2024) Mary Robson and Gary Bullock share experiences while observing nature, basing their thoughts on Rachel Carson’s essay A Sense of Wonder.

#237 Mayor David Faber’s Ambitious Goals

(Airdate: February 6, 2024) Maryanne interviews David Faber, Port Townsend’s Mayor. David has just been re-elected to his second term as Mayor. He grew up in PT and earned a law degree. Back in 2014 he and a close friend opened a law office here. A year later he successfully ran for City Council. David is passionate about bringing certain changes to the town. The top three action items on his list sound insurmountable. Solving the affordable housing crisis tops the list. He vows to improve transportation — with an emphasis on fixing our failing roads. Then there’s restoring public confidence in the city government. As he notes, it will take decades of work to successfully correct decades of neglect. Government sometimes moves at a rather glacial pace!
