Community Tides ~ 3/04/25

In this edition of Community Tides, Chris Bricker and Siobhan Canty visit with Ben Wilson, founder of Color of Sound and curator of Black Film in the Pacific Northwest, a weekend celebration of regional Black Cinema that takes place March 14 through 16. Port Townsend Film Festival is co-presenter with Color of Sound for this inaugural event at the Rose Theater.
Also joining our discussion will be filmmaker Anthony Tackett, Director of “June” and “Perspectives on Violence.” along with Port Townsend Film Festival’s Executive Director, Danni McClelland.

David and Tracy Grisman – Rocket Surgery

On March 3, KPTZ 91.9 hosted David Grisman and Tracy Grisman at our Fort Worden studio for an interview and the performance of three original songs. Topics included his storied musical history and collaborations throughout his career. Other topics included his Acoustic Disc record label and his connection to Port Townsend. The songs included a tune written for his daughter for her wedding. Charlie Bermant conducted the interview. Chris Bricker managed the sound.

Democracy Now is Back

(Airdate: March 3, 2025) KPTZ is bringing back Democracy Now on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am to noon. In this Attention Please! we talked about the reasons for making this change. We started with some information sent in by KPTZ Program Coordinator Karen Anderson (who was unable to join us on-air). KPTZ General Manager Taylor Clark was joined live by Founding Program Coordinator Larry Stein and Board of Directors President Jon Pinnow. Listen in to learn more about your community radio station.

County Public Health Report ~ 3/03/25

This month Dr. Allison Berry, Public Health Officer for Clallam and Jefferson Counties, and Willie Bence, Director of Emergency Management for Jefferson County gave a report to the Board Of County Commissioners about communicable diseases, earthquakes, and community emergency prep. Dr. Berry also answered listener questions. There is a public information session on Neighborhood Prep at the the Jefferson County Library in Port Hadlock at 10:30am on March 20. County Connections

(Airdate: February 28, 2025) This week, County Commissioner Heather Dudley-Nolette and co-host Jim Burke welcome Jefferson County Tax Assessor Jeff Chapman to discuss how tax assessments are made, the difference between regressive taxes like sales tax and property taxes which are actually more fair, plus the fact that Jeff is in “the middle” between the County Commission and the citizens who pay the taxes. The song outro is from the band Trampled By Turtles, The Middle.

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and co-host Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro get together again with Danny Milholland and Zak Moser from The Production Alliance to talk more about the upcoming Connectivity Summit, which will take place March 7, 8, and 9 at Chimacum High School. Help Celebrate David Grisman’s 80th Birthday

The KPTZ airwaves will brighten this Monday, March 3 with an on-air appearance by David Grisman and Tracy Bigelow Grisman that includes a live performance and discussion about David’s upcoming 80th birthday concert celebrations (March 23 at Field Hall in Port Angeles and March 25 at Seattle’s Moore Theatre). The event is hosted by KPTZ DJ Charlie Bermant as part of his regular program, Rocket Surgery. It begins at 3pm with the performance, with the remainder of the show devoted to folk and bluegrass.
