(Airdate: June 18, 2025) Marine mammals, especially the cetaceans, are a popular focus for wildlife viewing throughout the world. So, which species live here in the Salish Sea, and how are they doing? Local cetaceans include harbor porpoises, Dall’s porpoises, Pacific white-sided dolphins, minke whales, gray whales, humpback, and killer whales. Other local marine mammals include Steller sea lions, California sea lions, northern elephant seals, harbor seals, and sea otters.


(Airdate: June 1, 2025) On Saturday, June 14, thousands in Port Townsend and millions across the country took to the streets for “No Kings” protests, demonstrating against perceived authoritarian actions by the current administration. In this episode, hear voices from the Port Townsend rally and a conversation with KPTZ’s Jon Pinnow and Bruce Cowan from Indivisible Port Townsend, about the reasons behind the event, its impact within the broader national movement, and what comes next for community engagement in an ongoing effort to stand for ‘liberty and justice for all.’

KPTZ is excited to join Rainshadow Recording in welcoming Dan Navarro to the Palindrome in Port Townsend on June 19 at 7:30pm. Navarro has had an eclectic 40+ year career as a songwriter, recording and touring artist, session singer, and voice actor. His work spans 17 acclaimed albums, thousands of concerts, and numerous credits in film, television, and video games — including singing and voice acting in Oscar-winning films Coco and Happy Feet, TV series American Dad and Prison Break, and video games Fallout 4 and Red Dead Redemption II. He has also recorded hundreds of commercials in both Spanish and English. As a songwriter, Navarro is best known for co-writing the Grammy-nominated classic “We Belong,” made famous by Pat Benatar, along with songs for The Bangles, Dave Edmunds, and others. In early 2019, after more than 20 years performing with Lowen & Navarro, he released his first solo studio album, Shed My Skin, to rave reviews.
