(Airdate: July 21, 2026) Maryanne interviews Apple Martine, director of Jefferson County Public Health. Her parents were into what is usually called an alternative lifestyle. But Apple discovered a passion for learning. Her first degree was in zoology. Somehow that led her to healthcare and more specifically nursing. Many of us first became aware of our Public Health Department during the pandemic. But it does much more. Their underlying mission is to protect human life. The Health Department can literally close down restaurants that are not up to code. Also, as there is no Planned Parenthood office in Jefferson County, the Public Health Department helps bridge that gap. Lately, working with the “unhoused” has been a major priority.
