Spring fast approaches, though all that white stuff out there seems to belie the fact. The force of nature is a remarkable thing – you never know exactly what is coming. Here at KPTZ we have our own returning Force of Nature. Fortunately, we know both when he is coming and what his intentions are. Humans have to bear Mother Nature’s frequently fickle behavior. Ray Schroff, on the other hand, is a consistent joy to behold. A seasoned DJ from the old school of late night broadcasters, Ray has delivered to his listeners great music for decades.
KPTZ first broadcast on May 14, 2011. The next morning, Ray Schroff started the broadcast day introducing his fondly remembered show, Dream City Jukebox. Along the way, Ray settled in as a perennial favorite on Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3.
We are pleased to announce that, after a brief period of R and R, Ray is returning to KPTZ and his legions of devoted listeners ~ starting on Saturday, February 16 in the 10 pm – midnight slot with his new show, Ethereal Excursions.
Ray promises to play progressive jazz classics such as the work of John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and Sun Ra. There’ll be choice selections from ambient composers Steve Roach, Craig Padilla and Forrest Fang among others and a strong selection of lesser known but equally worthy work of composers like Errki-Sven Tuur, Tristan Murail, Robert Simpson, Toru Tekemitsu and Iannis Xenakis.
Do tune in this Saturday and every week thereafter to hear one of this station’s pride and joys: Mr. Ray Schroff and his exotic and intriguing new endeavor, Ethereal Excursions ~ and take a super aural trip with a master radio host.
