KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro were joined by AJ Feit, who is the PT Police Department’s Navigator, and whose job is to connect with people who may be overwhelmed or in distress and to help them ‘navigate’ the system. He is part of the police department, but is not an armed or uniformed officer. He is a trained mental health professional and a good one. He has been with the city since October 2025. The position is funded (in part) by a grant from WASPC (Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.

We then learned about John’s recent trip to Olympia to talk to our legislators about the about the city’s legislative priorities.

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark was joined by Port Townsend Chief of Police Tom Olson and Deputy Chief Kamal Sharif to talk about the department’s efforts to achieve WASPC certification. There was a good question from a listener about how we might improve the dialogue between the city council and their constituents. KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro were joined by Katy Goodman, Arts & Culture Coordinator for the Port Townsend Creative District, who let us know about the nomination process Port Townsend Arts Awards. Information on how to nominate someone is available at https://ptcreativedistrict.org/art-awards/. We were also joined by Eron Berg, the Executive Director of the Port of Port Townsend, who made an impassioned case for open-hearted participation in the process of finding community based solutions to the problems faced by local government. This is a poor paraphrase of what he was saying, listen in to hear what he actually said… its good.
