KPTZ Receives Federal Grant!!
We are thrilled to announce KPTZ FM has been
awarded a $150,000 grant from the Public Telecommunications and
Facilities Program (PTFP). This agency within the Federal Department of
Commerce pays 75% of the costs of constructing and equipping new
nonprofit radio stations. Late last year we jumped on the opportunity
to apply for a state-of-the-art broadcasting system, and were very
fortunate because funding is tight and the process is competitive.
As a result of receiving
the grant, our
construction and equipment budget is now approximately $200,000, of
which our community will provide a 25 percent share. So far
we have raised $25,000 of the community’s $50,000 share for construction
and equipment. If you have already contributed, thanks for your support
and please consider helping us again. If you have yet to contribute,
know that any amount you can offer will make a difference in this final
phase of our construction campaign.
Studio Space
We continue to research potential studio
locations (approximately 1000 square feet). The studio should be central
to Port Townsend and needs to be commercially zoned. Our first choice is
to find rent-free space from a benefactor. Do you know of such a party
or are you perhaps someone who fits that description? If so, please
contact Collin Brown 379-0411 or email us at
info@kptz.org
Programming
Many of you have expressed strong interest in
providing a variety of music and other programming. If you have ideas
for programs or if you would like to see what we are looking for, stay
tuned. We will invite proposals within the month, and guidelines and
procedures will be up on our website by mid-October.
Be In On the Ground Floor – Work for KPTZ
We're ready to hire a General Manager to build
the station and manage it when we get on the air. This will be a
part-time paid position.
We continue the search for a Fundraising
Coordinator because our fund-raising needs will continue as we become
fully operational. This is a part-time volunteer position. For
complete job descriptions - click here.
We are delighted now to have a substantial
budget for construction and equipment of our new community radio
station. We trust in your continued support and generosity to see this
dream realized.
